SLAS2021 HTS Workflows and Chemical Compound Libraries Available in the Automated Cloud Lab - Event Recap
Between January 25th-27th, Strateos was a proud participant at the SLAS 2021 Digital International Conference and Exhibition where we had the opportunity to showcase our expanded product and services portfolio in support of HTS workflows in drug discovery and biopharmaceutical programs worldwide.
Innovation on Display
The 2021 SLAS Digital International Conference and Exhibition, organized by the Society for Lab Automation and Screening, brought together scientists and industry leaders to share the latest life sciences discoveries, celebrate cutting-edge technology advancements, and foster global collaboration within the field of laboratory automation. High throughput screening (HTS) was the focus of many of the scientific sessions, which, thanks to rapid development in this space, is becoming more accessible to a wide range of research organizations and biopharma companies for drug discovery.
The increasing prevalence of chronic diseases and consequent need for drug discovery has driven significant financial investment into HTS technologies, which the pharmaceutical industry leverages to rapidly screen small molecule libraries in hopes of identifying therapeutic candidates for treatment. While advancements have been made in HTS screening, there is a continual need for higher throughput, shorter screen times, real-time data, better reproducibility and reliability of experiments.
Strateos, a software-driven technology company, is at the forefront of this innovation with the expansion of its curated collection of small molecule chemical libraries and provision of remote-accessible automated laboratories to provide end to end solutions that can meet the increased demand for HTS capabilities to accelerate global drug discovery and pharmaceutical programs.

Chemical Libraries and Automated Cloud Laboratories: A Powerful Pairing
During SLAS2021, Daniel Sipes, EVP of Strategy and Operations at Strateos, shared details of our new 500K small molecule chemical library and HTS solutions for early-hit identification as well as hit-to-lead screening. A virtual tour of Strateos operated automated cloud facility in San Diego equipped with specialized, cloud-based automated workstations shows how customers can streamline, optimize and execute the HTS workflow from assay development, compound selection and plating, primary screening, hit confirmation, and potency determination.
Our new, annotated 500K small molecule chemical library has built-in flexibility to allow clients to access and use the full library of lead-like compounds, a subset of plate-based selections, or a customized selection for iterative screening. These comprehensive and diverse libraries paired with Strateos’ Automated Cloud Laboratory HTS facility powers the execution of molecule screening in a reproducible and transparent manner, without the need for manual intervention from anywhere in the world.
Daniel highlights in several case studies how Strateos’ diverse portfolio of chemical libraries and automated cloud laboratory services can help clients move through the drug discovery pipeline with unprecedented ease and speed. In one example, our Automated Cloud Laboratory was leveraged to screen >1.2M compounds in a one month duration, with a maximum throughput of 100K compounds a day. Faster cycle times and access to real-time data enabled our client to rapidly identify several promising therapeutic compounds for further evaluation.
The virtual tour of the San Diego facility gives a glimpse into the depth and breadth of Strateos’ automated laboratory capabilities to handle HTS biochemical, ADME and cell-based assays (BSL-2 compliant) from 96 to 1536-well formats. These cloud-based state-of-the-art workcell modules integrate over 100 instruments, robotics and control software to enable automation and virtual access anywhere, anytime, to harmonize and expedite global partnerships.
